Magazine Anaylsis 1

Plan B, a well-known rap artist, and songwriter. The main image stands out because it shows the artist’s facial and body expressions. He has a very aggressive look in his eyes, and the hand gesture shows he is a quite angry. The cigarette in his mouth is showing that he really doesn’t care what people think of him, because you wouldn’t normally see a main image of a magazine cover with someone smoking. His clothing is very ‘CHAV’ as people call it, showing that he is a rough person.  The photographer of this image has also taken this picture against a wired fence showing he is from a rough area; also it gives a criminal look about him.
The Master Head NME is in bold white capital letters, and is fairly large. The NME title is usually known to be red, but with this magazine it is white. This is because is contrasts well with the other colours, as if it was red it would easily clash with the magazine.
I like the way they have used a limited amount of colour, the colours that have been used, stand out because the main image is very dark, the colours white and yellow are very simplistic but stand out and work with one another.
The image takes up the front of the magazine, and is the only image on the page. It draws attention from the intended audience, because it is a recognisable celebrity and is a bold and appealing picture.
There are four different text sizes; the largest one is the master head ‘NME’ this is because it is well known music magazine so therefore it attracts their audience. Then the main head line really stands out, showing it is the main story, attracting the target audience. The sub articles are the smallest fonts and keep the audience engaged into the main headline, so they do not get distracted, but they are big enough for the audience to read.
The text on the cover has been kept to a minimum; it also has been kept in a consistently basic white and yellow colour to keep it simple. The text is minimal on the cover, because it stops it from getting too busy, but there is enough there to give you an idea of the content of the magazine.
The target audience of this magazine is middle class audience, NME is a well-known magazine, showing it has a mass audience. People who also like Plan b would probably be attracted to this magazine and would buy it.
